Birth: Mar. 30, 1824
Death: Feb. 27, 1906

"[Adelia Cobb Baker] had been a teacher. The younger members of the family used to think Aunt Adelia rather a forbidding sort of person. She was rather austere and I remember thinking that her maiden name "Cobb" was very appropriate.

"She was tall and slender, always attired in a plain gown with a shawl and a simple black bonnet. Most of the women wore similar attire. I wonder if, at that time, the Methodists were still of the "plain people." But Aunt Adelia had a really beautiful face. Her profile was like a cameo. Had she been living today, with a modern gown, and hairdo, a bit of powder, rouge and lipstick, she would surely have been "Miss Porter Center.

"Having been a teacher, she was scholarly. Her vocabulary and pronunciation were always correct and precise," according to Anna Hayward Merritt (Page 29 Vol 11 Baker-Durand).
