CALHOUN CITY - James W. Baker, 77, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Eupora. He was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Chickasaw County. He was a retired metal worker for Heatcraft and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Rev. Dwight Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Chickasaw County.

Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Hankins (Bill) of Eupora and Carol Blackman (Huey) of Asheville, Ala.; two sisters, Ouida Marshall of Vardaman and Margaret Simmons of Grenada; one brother, Charlie Baker of Calhoun City; six grandchildren, Jalee Sluss, Bobby Sluss, Melanie Becker (Eric) and Sloan Blackman (Renee); eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Baker and Elsie Mae Nichols Baker; a sister, Bonnie Rodgers; and two brothers, Wilmer Baker and Buddy Baker.

Pallbearers will be Larry Baker, Jerry Baker, Kenny Clanton, John Harrison, Bob Cozart and Robert Barnett.

Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the funeral home.
