Mrs. Carrie Baker Gantt, 73, died Monday evening in the Homer Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Gantt was born Carrie Baker and was a member of the Baker family which was among the earliest settlers in Bienville Parish, having migrated from South Carolina more than 100 years ago to establish the Mt. Lebanon community, the first settlement in this parish.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Gibsland Baptist Church and were conducted by the Rev. M.F. Copeland, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Nichols and the Rev. D.L. Westbrook, both of Athens. Burial was in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Conger's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gantt is survived by a son, Holstun Baker Gantt of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mrs. J.C. Randol of Shreveport; and two grandchildren.
