BAKER. John Harley Baker, 93, formerly of 513 N. Main Street, died Monday, May 22, 2000 at the Thomas Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born September 30, 1906 in Moreland, he was the son of the late George Christopher and Allie Haley Baker.

He was the widower of Aline Tatum Baker. He worked
as a plumber for Goodlett & Hayslett and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. He was an army veteran,
having served 11 years. He served under George Patton and
was part of a special detail dispatched to Alkatraz Island to oversee the imprisonment of Al Capone.

Survivors include: one son, Michael Dale (Betty) Bugg, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Jennifer Joan (Jimmy) Long, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ocie Baker; two sisters, Gertrude Merriman and Jennie Zimmerman.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 24, at the Ransdell Funeral
chapel with Mark Girard officiating.

Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites. Pallbearers were Kevin Bugg,
Todd Bugg, Don Hayslett, Harold Hill, Mike Hill, Vernon Tatum
and Kevin Tyler. Honorary bearers were Donnie and Gil Hayslett.

Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted
Military Rites for John Baker at Spring Hill Cemetery on May
24. Those attending were Roy Freeman, Howard Howells,
James Carey, Louis Ransdell, Curtiss Sherrow and Joe
Harlow. Erica Ashford served as bugler.
