Services for Mabel Edith Baker, 91, Lake Park, were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 1991, at the Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake. Pastor John Maytum officiated. Music was provided by Mary Lou Ayres, organist and Robert Cosens, soloist. He sang "The old Rugged Cross" and "Will There Be Any Stars." Pallbearers were Jeffery Baker, Pat Kearney, Tim Kearney, Eugene Rosenberg, Jerry Rosenberg and Jon Williams.
Mrs. Baker died Friday, March 15, at the Lake Park Care Center where she had been a resident since March 17, 1989.
She was born Dec. 21, 1899, on a family farm east of Landon to Frederick William and Katie Bernhagen. She attended school at Spencer and graduated from Normal Traning.
She married Avalt L. Baker at Spirit Lake Jan. 11, 1922. They farmed in Clay and Dickinson Counties until 1934 when they moved to Spirit Lake. Mr. Baker died in 1951.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. L. H. (Glagys) Rosenberg of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Warren (Grace) Haynes of Marysville, WA., Mrs. Fred (Olive) Kearney of Owatonna, MN., Mrs. J. A. (Velma) Dickerson of Adair, OK., Mrs. Vera Sperber of Long Beach, CA., and Mrs. K. D. (Evelyn) Bauermeister of Costa Mesa, CA.; one son, Frederick (Bill) of Spirit Lake; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Florence) Smith of Spencer, IA.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and two sisters.
Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake, was in charge of services.
