Derenda Marlene Baker, 67, of Bedford, broke free from the chains which have bound her for so very long on this earth on Feb. 8, and walked triumphantly up the stairway to heaven to be with the Lord.

She was born Sept. 6, 1943, in Bedford, to Jack Summers and Dorothy (Smith) Summers. She married George "Doc" Baker on Nov. 25, 1960, and he survives.

She was a homemaker and was an assembler at G.E.

She was a beloved daughter, devoted wife and sister, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. She faced unimaginable trials throughout her life with unequaled courage and grace.

Derenda Baker honored us all by the way she lived. She is our hero, and we will miss her desperately. May our grief be tempered by the knowledge that she is, at long last, free.

She was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1961. she attended Faith Mission Church in Bedford.

Surviving are her mother, Dorothy Summers of Bedford; one daughter, Twilla (Kevin) Pugh of Mitchell; one son, Troy (Cathy) Baker of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren, Joshua (Katie) Baker who is serving in the U.S. Navy, Elliott Baker and Jack Baker of Pittsburgh, and Kade Pugh of Mitchell; two sisters, Teresa Torphy of Bedford and Lydia (Mike) Jarboe of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Summers; and maternal grandmother, Leona Smith.

A private graveside service will be held. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Private visitation for family will be at the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford, which is in charge of the arrangements.
