Andrew Baker, Jr.
August 4, 1927 - January 29, 2011

Andrew E. Baker, Jr. passed away January 29, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer for the past one and one-half years.
He was born on August 4, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Andrew and Anne (Zidek) Baker. He found joy in visiting with his friends and family. He will always be loved, remembered, respected, and appreciated for being a unique and wonderful person.

Andy married Beverly Baxman in 1978 and joined Beverly's household with her adopted son, John Matheson. Andy cherished Beverly's love and companionship until her passing in 2000. He is also preceded in death by his loving sister and lifelong mentor Judith (Baker) Hall, his brother-in-law Frank Hall, and his parents, Andrew and Anne Baker. Andy had many fond memories of his family and particularly his sister's influence on his growth and development. He is survived by his nieces, Ann (Hall) Tsiminakis (George), Debra (Hall) Downs, grandniece, Jacqueline Nesbitt, and great grandnieces, Madeline and Grace Nesbitt.

After graduating from Senn High School, Chicago, Illinois, Andy enrolled at Purdue University and joined Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. In 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army and served at Ft. Sheridan, Camp Grant and Fort Knox. He transferred to the University of Illinois and completed his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Marketing in 1950.

Following graduation, Andy was employed at Marsh Instrument Company in Skokie, Illinois where he worked in advertising, sales promotion and marketing, while attending Northwestern University.

In 1960 he moved to Indianapolis to work for P.R. Mallory & Co., Inc. where he joined their advertising department. With a true spirit of independence he founded his own advertising agency, Andy Baker & Associates, specializing in the industrial electronics market from 1976 to 2000.

Andy served as Past Commander for the American Legion Post No. 153 and was an active member of The Service Club of Indianapolis, serving as editor of the Grenade for over two years.

Among his many interests, he enjoyed photography and travel. Andy was given his first camera at the age of eleven. He learned the art of developing and colorizing his own pictures and had his own dark room at his parent's home. He also took many wonderful trips throughout his life and took beautiful pictures of places he visited.

Andrew Baker's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the friendship he received from those who made his life so much richer with their love and kindness. They are also grateful for the excellent care he received from Dr. Stephen Beck, his oncology nurses Tammy and Sarah, and the very fine caregivers of the Senior Home Health Companions.

A celebration of his life will be held at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th Street, on February 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with calling 1 hour prior. Private internment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
