Death of Mr P H Baker
Mr Philip Henry Baker, a well known and highly respected citizen of Botetourt County died at his home in Amsterdam, on Saturday, September 24, 1916, after an illness of about two months, resulting from a stroke of paralysis. Aged eighty years, Mr Baker had not enjoyed robust health for some years, but not confined to his room until he was paralyzed. He was a kindhearted man and and a generous neighbor, and esteemed by a large circle of friends. He was a brave Confederate Soldier, and served through out the Civil War. He professed faith in Christ a short time before his death. Mr Baker is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son, all of whom resided at the homestead. The funeral services were conducted by Re. C Keith, and the remains were interred in Mt Union on the morning of the 25th.
