From "Scrips and Scraps," abstracts from six old scrapbooks:
Clintonville, February 20. Services for John M. Baird held at the home in Grove City Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. C. H. Williamson, pastor of First Presbyterian church of Grove City, assisted by Dr. Riggle. Body then brought to Clintonville and interment in Methodist cemetery here. Was 78 years old, died Wednesday morning at home in Grove City where he had been resident for past twenty-two years. Born and raised in Clintonville and lived all life here until he moved to Grove City. Married October 5, 1872, Mary Grace Hovis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davis Hovis of this place and settled on a part of his father's estate. (1927)

He was born on the farm near Clintonville October 20, 1848. In early life he united with the Presbyterian church at Clintonville. In time he was elected to the eldership in that church, succeeding his father, James Baird. Those men were both esteemed for their sterling character and loyalty to conviction. Those left to mourn Mr. Baird's death are his wife, four sons and one daughter: Dr. D. E. Baird, Redmond, Oregon; Prof. Frank P. Baird, Boise, Idaho; Rev. Jesse H. Baird, Pomona, Calif.; J. Clarence Baird, Grove City, and Mrs. Sue M. Chambers, West Newton, Pa. One sister, Mrs. Porter Phipps, Pittsburgh, and one brother, W. A. Baird, Pasadena, Calif., also survive. One daughter, Mrs. Almeda Baird Howe, a missionary to China, passed on to the heavenly home 12 years ago. Two sons, Dr. D. E. Baird and Rev. J. H. Baird, were not able to be present. F. P. Baird of Boise, Idaho, arrived just in time for the funeral service. Friends attending from a distance: Mrs. Mary Curran, Kate Curran, Howe Bunch and John Curtis, of Franklin; Mrs. Mary Thorne and C. H. Corbin, Warren, Ohio; Rev. and Mrs. Henry C. Foster, of Salineville, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewis and James Riggle, of Pittsburgh; Clarence Anderson, of Butler; Mr. and Mrs. John Porter, Clarion; a large number of relatives and friends from Clintonville and vicinity.

John and Mary Grace had six children: Susan May Baird (1874-1930) married to James Clyde Chambers, Sr. (1883-1948); David Edwin Baird, M.D. (1876-1948) married to Sarah Alice Whitney (1885 - )residing in ID and UT; James "Clarence" Baird (1878-1964) married (1) Mary L. Atwell (1879-1915) and (2) Jessie Fulton (1883-1976); Franklin Pierce Baird (1880-1950) married to Bessie M. Barnes (1877-1950) residing in ID; Almeda Florence Baird (1881-1915 China) - married to Rev. Edwin C. Howe; and Rev. Jesse Hays Baird (1889-1976) married to Susanna Bragstad (1889-1951) residing in CA. Jesse was author of "Thomas and Martha Beard-Baird, Piioneers on the Scrubgrass 1796 with the story of their children unto the eighth generation"
