Bobby "Bob" Gene Bain was born Jan. 12, 1928 in Pell City, Alabama to Otis Montgomery Bain and Elnora Tuttle Bain. He attended school in Pell City and graduated from Pell City High School. He attended Jacksonville State for a year before transferring to Auburn where he graduated in March of 1952. He then attended Murdoch Cotton and Classing School in Memphis, Tennessee. He began his permanent career with Avondale Mills in Sylacauga in June of 1952 in the Raw Materials Department. He was made an Assistant Vice President in 1965 and was made a Vice President in December of 1969. He began his career with Avondale when he was 12 years old working after school, weekends and summers. He was a life guard at both Camp Helen and Lake Louise. He retired from Avondale in February of 1993. He was an active member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Sylacauga where he served on the administrative board, taught Sunday school for 6th graders, worked with MYF, sang in the choir, and served as the scout master of Troop 126. He won The Distinguished Service Award from The Boy Scouts of America of the Choccolocco Council. He loved to fish and was an avid gardener. He loved to share his vegetables with all his friends and neighbors. He loved the Lord, his country and his family. On Sept. 13, 1949, he married Shirley Ann Watson. He is survived by his three children, Monty Bain, wife Becky, daughter, Ella Carol Thornton, husband, Ray and son, Wade Bain, wife Emily, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and sister, Laura Rooker. He became a member of Cain's Chapel United Methodist Church in Holtville (Slapout) when he and Shirley moved there to be close to kids and grandkids. He moved his membership back to 1st United Methodist in Sylacauga in 2012.
