Joshua Gilpin Baily, aged 87 years, five months and one day, passed away at the home of his son, Eugene, at 7:00 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 1944. He was born April 22, 1857 at Lisbon, the son of Humphery and Philena Baily. After attending Cornell college, he moved west and on March 10, 1881, he was married to Josephine McCrellis.
After living a year in Medicine Bow, Wyo, they moved to Lima, Mont., where they operated a ranch for 16 years. They returned to Iowa in 1899, where they farmed for a number of years before retiring to Central City.
His wife and a son preceeded him in death. He is survived by two sisters; Mrs. Susan Lawrence, Philadelphia, Penn., and Mrs. Lillie Trump, Sioux City; a son, Eugene, Central City; four daughters, Mrs. George Fuller, Mrs A.D. Hatfield and Mrs. Lena Fuller, Central City, and Mrs. Josephine Bremer, Iola, Kan.; 26 grandchildren, including seven boys in the armed service of their country; 51 great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 25, at the Federated church, the Rev. Lewis Savage in charge. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
