Roy Bailey
Roy T. Bailey of Loganville, Georgia, died July 23, 2006 of advanced Parkinson's disease. Roy was born on February 16, 1932, in Roanoke, Alabama. He is remembered by family and friends as the Big Man with the Big Heart. Roy came from a large family, seven siblings, who had very strong family ties. All eight children and their families stayed in the Atlanta area and his biggest joy was spending time with his family and friends. “Dad was a man of very high morals and values; a very strong work ethic which he passed on to his children,” said his son, Bill. “He expected a lot of himself and he expected a lot of us.” “He was one of the most caring people and was always there for his family, friend and anyone in need. He would literally give you the shirt off of his back,” according to his sister, Bobbie Bailey. Fishing and golf were his favorite sports. You could always depend upon Roy to organize a fishing trip with his friends. He and his friends frequented the Gulf Coast of Florida for deep sea fishing and there were always “big fish” stories to share. Roy served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1955 which included service in the Korean War. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Grayson, Georgia, the Vinyard Sunday School Class, Clarkston Masonic Lodge #492, Atlanta Scottish Rite and the Yaarab Temple. After 35 years of service, he retired as Plant Manager from Our Way, Inc., in Tucker, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ricketts Bailey and three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Terrell and Kathy Bailey, Hull, GA, Gregory Allen and Connie Bailey, Loganville, GA, William O'Dell and Staci Bailey, Cumming, GA; and daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Gordon Young, Winterville, GA. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret B. Robinson, Snellville, Bobbie Bailey, Atlanta, Audrey B. Morgan, Stone Mountain, Ann B. Piper, Gainesville and brother, Floyd L. Bailey, Lilburn. In addition, he is survived by his wonderful grandchildren, Terrell and Stephen Bailey, Amber Young, Jason Shutley, Ryan and Evan, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Mary Bailey and brothers, Leon Bailey and Arnold Ray Bailey. Funeral services are planned for 11 am, Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Wages Snellville chapel, 3705 Hwy. 78 West, Snellville, GA 30078. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker.
