Mrs. Silvia D. Bailey
Word has been received here of the death Nov. 30 at Downey, Calif., of Mrs. Silvia Dakota Bailey [sic], 67, former Waterloo resident, following an illness of one year.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer L. Sage, Mrs. Bailey was born Dec. 3, 1884, at St. Lawrence, S.D. She came to Iowa as a girl and was married May 4, 1905 [sic], at Garner to Ora S. Bailey.
Prior to coming to Waterloo in 1934, the couple resided at Britt and Waukon, la. Mrs. Bailey was employed at the New York Fashion Shop for a period of six years.
During their residence at Waukon, Mr. Bailey was owner and publisher of the Waukon Republican and Standard newspaper and while in Waterloo he was associated with the Davidson Co.
Surviving besides the husband are a son, Ora S. Bailey, Jr., of Downey, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul U. Halbmaier, of Downey, and Mrs. Hugh A. Thorson, Fort Worth, Tex. There are also one sister, Mrs. R. D. Hillary, of Spirit Lake, la., and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Bailey and her husband resided with their son-in-law and daughter, the Halbmaiers, at Downey. Her brother-in-law and sister, the R. D. Hillarys, of Spirit Lake, were visiting them in the west at the time of her death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at Downey, Calif., with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery at Long Beach.

Mrs. F. E. Heacox received a telephone call Sunday from her brother, Ora Bailey of Downey, Calif., advising of the death of his wife, 68, which occurred that day at a hospital in Downey.
Sylvia Sage spent her girlhood in Garner. After her marriage to Ora Bailey the family spent many years in Britt where Mr. Bailey was employed on the Britt Tribune newspaper by his father. After leaving Britt they owned a newspaper at Waukon for a number of years. Three years ago they moved to Downey, Calif., to be near two of their children.
Surviving Mrs. Bailey are her husband, and a son Sumner Bailey and a daughter Carol (Mrs. Paul Halbmeier), all of Downey, Calif., and a daughter Dorothy (Mrs. Hugh Thorson), Ft. Worth, Texas. There are four grandchildren.

The sister of Mrs. Ray D. Hillary, Mrs. Sylvia Dakota Bailey, died Nov. 30 while the Hillarys were visiting her at her home in Downey, California.
Mrs. Bailey was born at St. Lawrence, S. Dak. Dec. 3, 1884, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer L. Sage, and spent all her childhood in Iowa. She married Ora S. Bailey May 4, 1905 in Garner, and lived at Britt several years [portion illegible]. They then moved to Waukon where they lived until 1914 [?].
Later they moved to Waterloo and were there until 1950 when they moved to Downey. Her husband was the publisher of the Waukon Republican and Standard. In Waterloo he was associated with the Davidson furniture co.
Sylvia Bailey had been employed in the New York Fashion shop six years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and two brothers. A daughter, Virginia Opal, also died in infancy in 1908.
Survivors include her husband, Ora S. Bailey, Sr., a son Ora S. Bailey, Jr., and two daughters, Mrs. Paul U. (Carol K.) Halbmaier, Downey, and Mrs. Hugh A. (Dorothy) Thorson, Fort Worth, Texas.
Other survivors are her sister Mrs. Ora [sic] Hillary and four grandchildren. She and her husband had made their home with their youngest daughter and husband, Mrs. Halbmaier.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Downey with interment at Sunnyside cemetery, Long Beach, Calif. Miller Mortuary at Downey was in charge of the arrangements.
