SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

William Bailey was born February 11, 1874 in Bethel, Minnesota. He was the son of John F. and Nellie L. (Brown) Bailey. His father was born in Bangor, Maine and his mother was born in Voss, Norway.

MILTARY RECORD:
Enlisted April 29, 1898 at Princeton, Minnesota. Served in Company "M", 14th Regiment, Minnesota Infantry Volunteers. He was discharged with the rank of Private on November 18, 1898 at Princeton, Minnesota. He was five foot six inches tall and had fair complexion.

He was married to Delia M. on December 27, 1902. He listed five children on his Veterans' Home application in 1960: Wilma E. Wilson of Comox, British Columbia; Celia Herschi, Port Gamble, WA; Gordon Bailey, Seattle; and Richard Bailey, La Mesa, California. His children were born between 1903 and 1912. He had been a resident of Washington state since December 1910 and lived in Spokane in November 1915; Hillyard in 1916; and Seattle from January 1917 to April 27, 1960. His occupation was Assistant Marble Setter. He was admitted to the Home on 23 May 1960.

Mr. Bailey was affiliated with the United Spanish War Veterans - McKinley Camp. He died at the Veterans' Home Hospital at 12:15 P.M. on September 27, 1961. Services were held in the Main Auditorium on October 2, 1961. Chaplain Hall officiated. Pallbearers were Quincy Wade, James Knepp, Alvin Best, Joseph Kenney, and Harold Wells. Burial was in the Veterans Home Cemetery.
