STERLING - Benjamin F. Bailey Jr., 88, of Sterling, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.
He was born Aug. 22, 1922, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Sybilla (Baumgartz) Bailey Sr. He married Hope Desmond on June 12, 1948, in Rock Falls.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Army with Merrill's Marauders. He worked at Sterling Bramlet for more than 20 years, as a manager before retiring. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sterling.
Survivors include his wife, Hope of Sterling; one daughter, Sherry (Alan) Burkett of Morrison; one son, Don (Grace) Bailey of Rockford; special friend, Maki Bailey of Rockford; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Paul Judd, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Sterling, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. A gathering of friends and family will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Sterling.
