Funeral services for Ruth Irene Bailey, 97, of Knoxville, who died February 16, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held February 19, 1998, at Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Burial was at Breckenridge Cemetery in Marion County. The Rev. Bob Ward officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Steve Marxen, Jerry Myers, Jeremiah Smith, Tim Marvel and Jason Marvel. Honorary bearers were Keith A. Perry, Dan P. Yando, Bruce Clark, Dennis Clark, Todd Clark and Jack Bailey.

Ruth was born October 23, 1900, near Pershing, the daughter of George Alfton and Eva Jane Harvey Perry. She graduated from Knoxville High School and received a teaching certificate from Drake University in Des Moines. She taught in several country schools in Marion County.

She was united in marriage to Chester Greer on February 21, 1920. He died in 1922.

She married Chester Bailey on February 16, 1926. He died in 1968. She was a lifelong resident of Marion County. She was a homemaker and served as a bookkeeper for several Knoxville businesses. She lived in her own home before moving to Griffin Nursing Center in 1997, and later to Westridge Manor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, both in Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a daughter; two brothers; two sisters; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by a son, Richard of Knoxville; two daughters, Jane Anne Clark of Pleasantville, and Frances Irene King of Cheyenne, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six great-greatgrandchildren.
