Mrs. Mary E. Lyman, an old resident of this county, principally in the neighborhood of Bussey, died at the Home for the Aged, in Des Moines on Monday, Nov. 18, 1907, aged 83 years, 11 months.
Deceased was born in Maryland in the year 1823, and was united in marriage with Arza B. Lyman, in Ohio in 1852. They removed to this county and state in 1854, residing some years near the present town of Bussey and later owned and resided upon a farm in Polk county. At one time Mr. and Mrs. Lyman were residents of Knoxville, He died here about nine years ago.
Deceased leaves one son and three daughters, name and place of residence as follows: Edwin Lyman, Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Sarah Webb, Des Moines; Miss Ennie, also of Des Moines, and Mrs. Ott Mick, near Kirksville, MO. Also, she was an aunt of Wm. A. Lyman of Knoxville.
The remains were taken to Bussey where the funeral services were held at the M. P. church on Wednesday Nov. 20, at 10:30 A.M. Burial in Bussey cemetery. [Knoxville Journal Obits - 1907]
Her age, as stated in the 1870, 1880 and 1900 Federal Census would indicate she was born in 1823, as does the 1885 Iowa State Census. Therefore, I have left her birth year as 1823.
