ZUNI - The angels in heaven rejoiced as they welcomed home Ashby Lee Bailey on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Branch A. and Myrtie C. Bailey; and a sister, Barbara Nelms.
Ashby was a member of Ivor Baptist Church. He touched the lives of all who crossed his path. He had resided for the past 20 years at The Neighbours Place group home in Zuni, with his beloved friends and much loved staff.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Joan B. Cook and husband, Nick of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Jane Wiltermood of Courtland, and Rebecca Biron of Smithfield; three nieces; six nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; his friends at The Neighbours Place; and his guardian angel, Debbie "Beby" Dashiell.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Wakefield, with the Rev. Chad McGinnis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and during the day on Wednesday at the old family home in Ivor. Burial will follow the service in Ivor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Western Tidewater Community Service Board for The Neighbours Place ICS/MR, P.O. Box 86, Windsor, VA 23487; Ivor Baptist Church, 8506 Bell Ave., Ivor, VA 23866; Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 228, Ivor, VA 23866; or Ivor Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
