HURLEY, Wis. -- Florence Barnaby, 83, of Bergland, died on Friday, June 3, 2011, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley. She was born on Sept. 2, 1927, in Merriweather, daughter of the late Frank and Belle (Borton) Bailey and was the Salutatorian of the Bergland High School Class of 1944.
Florence married Edward F. Barnaby on Dec. 18, 1946, in Bessemer, and taught Ceramics and Arts and Crafts at community schools for many years. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bergland, the Bergland Senior Citizens and the Bergland Historical Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Sue Barnaby (Sue Anderson) of Bergland and Marie (Bob) Smith of Sault Ste Marie, MI; four granddaughters, Amanda, Jessica, Sara and Erin (Louie); a great-granddaughter, McKenna; a sister, Thelma of Sault Ste. Marie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, in 2007; a grandson, Jason; three brothers, Carl, Herb and Charlie; and three sisters, Georgianna "Toots," Mae and June.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bergland. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Bergland.
