Fails to hear whistle, is hit
Rain storm cause of mans death
Greenup, September 8. While walking east bound on the C&O tracks at Wolcott, eight miles from here, yesterday during a hard rain storm. James R Bailey JR, 17, son of Mr and Mrs James Riley Bailey of Wolcott, failed to hear a whistle of east bound train number 98 and was instantly killed when he was struck in the back of the head and thrownfor a distance of fifty feet.
Bailey was an employee of the Langhorn & Langhorn road contractors working on Ashland- Greenup road and was going home to lunch when the accident happened.
He was going to get his horse at the barn near the construction camp and used the tracks as the nearest approach to his horse. Officials believe it was bcasue of the rain that Bailey did not hear the warning which engineer Ed Rourke Of Greenup said he sounded.
The body was brought back to Wolcott his home. Funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon with burial being in the burial in the family cemetery near the home. McGuire Cemetery.
