Funeral services for Wm. S. Baichley, 89, were held at the Methodist church in West Salem at two o'clock Monday.
Mr. Baichley passed away at his home in West Salem at 6:30 p. m. Saturday. Officiating clergyman was Rev. Estill Murphy with burial in the Moravian cemetery.
William S., son of Frederick and Elizabeth (Smith) Baichley, was born near Toledo, Ill, March 21, 1868. His parents and one sister and one brother preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Clara E. Odell at Oakland, Ill., March 22, 1891. To this union were born three daughters and one son.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters. Frances Baichley and Mrs. Mable Markman. He is survived by one son, Clarence O. Baichley and wife of Kansas City. Mo. and one daughter, Mrs. Alleen L. Miller and husband of West Salem. He also leaves one granddaughter, Mrs. Carol Ann Upton and husband of Kansas City and a great granddaughter.
Mr. Baichley started a newspaper at Signel, IL and later he started a paper at West Liberty. In January 1900 they moved to West Salem where he started the West Salem Advocate. In 1910 he sold the Advocate to H. F. Gerlach, the present owner.
