HAMILTON COUNTY

David Jo Baggett

David Josephine Baggett, 63, of Soddy-Daisy, ended her walk through life at home with her family by her side on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.

David Jo had been a longtime resident of Jefferson County, Ala., before relocating to Tennessee.

David Jo was a former member of CWA Local 3902 and a longtime member of Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, Kelly Ingram Post 668 and the DAV Auxiliary in Birmingham, Ala. During her last years, Granny Jo (as she was fondly known) dedicated most of her time to volunteering at Gann Middle Valley Elementary School and substitute teaching at numerous Chattanooga area schools. She loved helping the minds of children grow.

She is survived by her husband, Fred A. Baggett; and children, Juanita (Barry) Braddock, of Fultondale, Ala., and Howard L. (Tracey) McConnell Jr., of Hixson; stepchildren, Holly G. (Fred) Didden, John Messina and William Jones; grandchildren, Destini and Faith McConnell, Coleman Braddock, Jennifer Messina, Alexandra Urban, and Sergi Jones; great-grandchildren, Jake Messina; sister, Olyve Marie Furgason; and a host of close family and friends.

Services will be held at noon CDT on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Ridouts Gardendale Chapel, with visitation Monday night from 5:30-8 p.m. CDT.

In lieu of flowers, Granny Jo has asked that contributions be made to Gann Middle Valley Elementary School Library Fund at 1609 Thrasher Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.

Her last wish was to be able to provide quality educational reading material to grow and expand the minds of the children of the future she would never meet.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Memorial Hospital Hospice wing, and the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for all the caring support they have provided over the last few months.
