Abilene, Texas - Eloise Bacon, 87, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2008. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 13, at First Christian Church in Abilene at 1:30 p.m. followed by the graveside service in Cedar Hill Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. David Mindel and Terry Bacon will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Eloise Marie Minnerly was born March 13, 1920 to Claude and Tess Minnerly, in Denton Texas. While attending Texas Women's College in Denton, she fell in love with Carl Bacon, who was attending North Texas State College, and they were married shortly after graduation, on October 11, 1941. During their early married years, while Carl was in the Navy, the couple lived in Chicago and Gulfport, Mississippi, but they settled back in Texas where Eloise became a much loved teacher of many first grade students over the course of over 20 years of teaching.

Eloise and Carl had three children, Carla, born in 1954, Terry, born in 1956, and Susan, born in 1958. The couple raised their happy family in Kingsville, Sinton, and then Abilene, TX. The Bacon family enjoyed many summers camping in Colorado and after the kids left home, Eloise and Carl became longtime active members of the Good Sam's Club, traveling and camping with their close friends. In addition to camping, Eloise loved to cross-stitch and to read, and she was an avid grower and breeder of African Violets, winning several prizes with her plants in competitions. She and Carl were members of First Christian Church in Abilene for many years.

Eloise was a sweet and loving grandmother to Michael and Cody, sons of Carla and Mike Owens, Layla Price, daughter of Susan and Mark Price, and Lee and Evan, sons of Jamie and Terry Bacon, and great-grandmother to Kanara and Tra, children of Cody Owens. She loved taking the grandchildren on camping trips and to their lot on Lake Brownwood.

Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Susan, and her grandson Michael. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Carl, as well as her children Carla and Terry; sister, Ruth Robbins; brother, Claude Minnerly, Jr. and wife, Rose; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Eloise and Carl have lived happily in their home during her last years, cared for by Carla and Mike. The family would like to thank Amy Wester for her loving help during the past year.

Sadly, Mrs. Bacon's husband Carl passed away just six days after she did.
