Miss Eliza and Miss Ruth Bacon were daughters of Samuel Bacon, a pioneer of Brownhelm. Miss Eliza was born August 1832 and Miss Ruth January 1845. Their girlhood was spent in Brownhelm. For a number of years they were matrons of a boarding house in Oberlin. As old age approached they returned to the home of their girlhood, bought a tract of land opposite their old home and erected a neat little cottage. They again united with the church their father had helped build. Aunt Dove, as Miss Ruth was familiarly called by those who knew and loved her, again became an active worker in church, Sunday school and society. Miss Eliza could not take as active a part on account of her health. They only enjoyed their old home about four years. Two weeks ago Miss Ruth was taken seriously ill and Saturday, October 6, she died. Miss Eliza, who had been helping to care for her sister, until the last was
sticken with the same disease and Monday morning she passed away. The double funeral was held Tuesday at the church. Rev. Hannaford, who had boarded with them in Oberlin, conducted the services, after which they were laid to rest in a single grave in the Ridge cemetery.
