Margaret "Marg" Bacon Shay of Greenmount Ave., Dansville, died Monday, April 1, 1996 at the Columbia Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, FL, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Dansville, she was born June 19, 1915, the daughter of the late William and Catherine Bloomster Bacon A school teacher upon graduating from Geneseo State Teachers College, she then became a homemaker after her marriage to Harold (Tim) Shay on Aug 2, 1941.
Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's and St. Mary's Churches in Dansville where she was a CCD teacher for many, many years and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was co-manager of the gift shop at Noyes Memorial Hospital for 25 years, a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and worked on the Meals-On-Wheels Program since its inception.
Besides Tim, her husband of 55 years, survivors include her children, Jon H. (Linda) Shay of Dansville, Mimi (Terry) Yencer of Alden, NY, Katherine (David) Carlson of Buffalo and Timothy L. Shay of Buffalo; one sister, Ann Bacon of Webster; three brothers, Dr. John (Doris) Bacon of Rockford, Ill., William (Mary) Bacon of Kent, OH, and George (Katherine) Bacon of Dansville; a sister in law Lucille Bacon of Dansville; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and James Bacon.
Friends may call Sat., April 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Chamberlin Funeral Home Inc., 73 Main St., Dansville. Because of the Easter Observance, a funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church on Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Greenmount Cemetery.
