AGNES "AGGIE" M. BACKHAUS, 75 of Pearland, passed away December 2, 2010. Aggie was born December 13, 1934 in Callicoon, New York to William and Flora Wilke. She is preceded in death by her parents; nephew Bill Goodyear and niece Judy Backhaus. Aggie is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, W. H. "Jug" Backhaus; sons, Darren Backhaus and wife, Laura, and Kurt Backhaus; sister, Rosemary Goodyear; grandchildren Brady and Meredith Backhaus; and a host of many other family and friends.

Aggie was extremely active in her church and the community, serving in many volunteer capacities. She was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church for more than 45 years; and proudly served with the Lioness Club of Pearland and was a Board Member of the Pearland Neighborhood Center. In her early years, she enjoyed doing artwork and painting. This passion served as the inspiration for her working as a graphic illustrator for IBM for 35 years. Aggie will be fondly remembered for her compassionate nature and constant dedication to helping others. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Visitation for Aggie will take place on Sunday evening, December 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, TX 77581 with a Rosary recited by Deacon Darvin Bordelon at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday morning, December 6, 2010 at 10 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd, Pearland, TX 77581 with Father Reggie Nesvadba officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery at SouthPark in Pearland, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Loessin, John Loessin, Mike Loessin, John Williams, Dennis Mills, and Virgil Mikeska. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Aggie's honor to the Lionesss Club of Pearland at www.pearlandlions.org or the Pearland Neighborhood Center at www.pnctexas.com .
