William George Bacewicz, 76, of Barkhamsted, beloved husband and best friend of Eva (LeGeyt) Bacewicz, died Tuesday, (April 3, 2007) at home surrounded by his family. He was born April 6, 1930 in East Hartford, son of the late John and Frances (Spakauskas) Bacewicz and lived in Barkhamsted for the past 40 years.

Bill graduated from East Hartford High School, Class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1955, he graduated from Porter School of Design Engineering. Bill worked for The Hartford Special Machinery, Co. in Simsbury for over 20 years until its closing and then was an Engineer at Hamilton Standard, Windsor Locks, for 11 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Collinsville, and the Barkhamsted Senior Center. Bill was an avid golfer, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and especially enjoyed the summers at his cottage in Otis, MA.

Besides his wife of 43 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Carrie Bacewicz of Simsbury; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bret Trelli of Bristol and Donna and Michael Carlone of New Hartford; two sisters, Frances Waclawski of Wethersfield and Elizabeth Hawrylik of Kensington; his cherished grandchildren William, David and Amanda Bacewicz, Dwight and Olivia Carlone, Matthew and Christopher Trelli. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Joseph and Anthony Bacewicz and a sister, Anna Bovee.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, Monday, April 9, 5-8 p.m. Funeral will be Tuesday, April 10, 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville. Burial with military honors will follow at the Barkhamsted Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Farmington Valley VNA, 8 Old Mill Lane, Simsbury, CT 06070 or to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, CT Chapter, 27 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06473. Bill's family would like to express their many thanks to the Farmington Valley VNA Hospice team, Northwest Home Care Services, Inc. and Kisbeth DiMartino for the excellent care and support they gave Bill and his family.
