Floraida "Flora" Apodaca Baca, 91, born March 30, 1918, passed away on September 3, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Flora was born March 30, 1918 in Vigil, Co. She married Pedro I. Baca April 7, 1935 in Segundo, CO. In 1961 Flora and Pedro moved their family to Colorado Springs.
Flora will be missed by all who were touched by her love, strength and faith. She was very religious and she would make us pray the rosary everyday during lent and on any car trip (even if it was just to Pueblo)! Flora taught the Chaplain (not Catholic) how to pray the rosary too.
Mom loved to teach the kids how to play "tonk" so she could take their money. She loved to watch the animal channel especially Meerkat Manor. She also watched the Rockies and the Broncos, and when she woke up she would want to know who was winning.
She was a remarkable woman in that she learned how to drive in her forties and still wanted to drive in her eighties. She knew how to make a can of tomato paste stretch into two meals and fed an army of kids on very little. She loved to eat "happy meals" so she could display the toy on top of her TV.
Mom loved to tell us "chistes" and riddles to see if we could get them. Later on in life she got her jokes from the kid's page in the paper. She was a character until the end. She liked George Strait and Antonio Aguilar and singing with the angels as she is now. She was feisty and stubborn, yet loving and giving. We will be lost without her.
Flora is survived by 10 children: Celeste (Robert) Starling, Nancy Williams, Pete (Andrea) Baca, Emily (Larry) Sellers, Mary Hahne, Betsy (Dan) Maish, Porfy Baca, Debbie (Keith) Wood, Bernadine Baca, Chris Baca. 28 Grandchildren, 43 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Granddaughters and her dear friend Rosa Febres.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro, daughters Rosalie and Vera, and sons Nestor, Juan Pedro and Juanito.
The Baca Family would like to extend its thanks to Odyssey Hospice and all of the volunteers who helped maked their Mother smile.
