Patricia C. Ginn, 88, our beloved mother, passed away at her home in Mesa on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, with her friend and companion, Mildred Stofferhan, by her side. She was born in Pietown, N.M., on June 30, 1923, to Tomas and Albina Baca. Her father was a sheepherder in the Arizona and New Mexico state line area. Her mother was a homemaker.

In her younger years, she lived in western New Mexico and worked at various restaurants and did whatever she could to keep food on the table.

She met and married Percy R. Ginn (Red) in 1950 in Silver City, N.M., after a first failed marriage.

In the 40s, she was blessed with two sons, George A. Ginn and Tootie L. Ginn (Art), to whom she devoted her life.

Pat and Red built, owned and operated Chapparal Motor Lodge in Duncan.

She lost her husband, Percy R. Ginn, in 1959 to cancer and took on the challenge of raising two teenage boys, which proved to be an overwhelming chore. But she did the best she could, and they managed to turn out OK.

After her sons married and had families, she got involved in an apartment complex in Yuma, where she met Art Shampine in 1970. They formed a union and were together for 27 years.

In 1973, Patricia and Art Shampine retired and moved to Mesa. She lost Art in 1998 due to heart problems.

She had three sisters and two brothers, Danny Baca and Tomas Baca, Crusiata Jaramillo, Mario Silva and Tillie, the youngest sister. All have passed away except for Tillie.

She is survived by her two sons, George Ginn of Tucson and Tootie (Wanda) Ginn of Central; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Patricia had a good life for the most part, and we will all miss her very much. A private graveside service will be held in Duncan at a later date.
