"Christie was born and raised in Crescent City and attended Redwood Elementary and Del Norte High School. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Chico California to attend Chico State University. Christie graduated from college, receiving her BS degree in Accounting. Began work and at that time she also began studying in her spare time to take the Certified Public Accountants exam, ultimately receiving her CPA license. Shortly after, Christie decided to run for public office, and in June 1994 was elected to the position of Auditor/Controller of Del Norte County. She has held that office for the last 15 years and was just recently re-elected to that position. Christie was a member of the Soroptimist. She was also an officer in the Del Norte Youth Soccer Association, and was a soccer coach to many of the local kids. She was also a member of PTSO at Redwood School. Christie was the devoted wife of Henry Babich, Jr., and the devoted mother of son, Trevor Babich, and daughter, Jordan Babich, all of Crescent City. She is also survived by her parents, Jay and Johna Cholwell, father and mother-in-law, Henry and Sandy Babich; sister, Caryn Cleland, all of Crescent City; brother, Jason Cholwell and wife Dianna of Magalia California; nephew, Kyle Cleland; nieces, Taylor Cleland and Elizabeth, Alexandra and Alyys Cholwell; grandmothers, Jeri Cholwell of Santa Rosa, and Helen Summers of Grants Pass Oregon."
