Bernice is the daughter of Arthur Leander Vachon (1883-1923) and Elizabeth DeGraw Vachon. Both of her parents held several jobs in restaurant and food industries.

Information about Bernice's mom as she has no known memorial:
Elizabeth "Lizzie" DeGraw was born July 14, 1875 in St Paul, Minnesota; and died Dec 18, 1919 in Lewistown, Montana. She was the daughter of Henry and Matilda DeGraw. She had at least two siblings - Mary Mathilda "Mathilda" and John B.. Bernice is about 13 years old.

In 1923, when Bernice is 16 years old, her father was killed in a tragic automobile/pedestrian accident. Arthur was with his second wife and a daughter. The newspaper accounts are not consistent with respect to their names. Hypothesis by me - His second wife was a woman named Charlotte and the young daughter was his stepdaughter who was named Elizabeth and went by the name "Betty".

Bernice graduates from Central High School in Washington D.C. in 1923 or 1924. She was described as sweet, attended less than one year, wanted to be an Grand opera singer and had hoped to study at Bush Conservatory in Chicago IL (I do not know if she did).

In 1925, a Washington (D.C.) Star article implies that Bernice might be employed as a telephone operator. In 1940, she is a brassiere manufacturer office manager.

Bernice married three times:
1) About 1926, at about the age of 20, Bernice marries Homer Babcock, likely in the Los Angeles California area; it is not known if they had children. Homer and Bernice likely divorced as Homer dies in 1982 in Florida. Yet it is his surname that she bears when she passes away.
2) On 20 Apr 1937 in Los Angeles County, California, Bernice married Elmer L Bengson but Elmer died Sept 27, 1938 in Los Angeles County, California. It is not known if they had children.
3) On Sept 12, 1942, Bernice married Richard Louis Piccheitti in Richmond, Virginia; it is not known if they had children. By 1950 Richard was divorced and is single and living in Wilmette, Cook, Illinois. Richard is remarried in/by 1952.

Bernice passes away in Hollywood, California.
