Mabel was born in Gilroy, CA to Everett and Velma Beghtel. At age 2, her parents did not survive an automobile accident and Mabel moved to Waterford. She graduated from Hughson High School where she met the love of her life, Roy Baptista. They were married in 1949 and lived happily until Roy passed on March 10, 1986. Mabel was reunited with Roy on the 24th anniversary of his passing on March 10, 2010.
Mabel is survived by two children, her daughter Judy (Ben) Hager of Turlock and son Mike Baptista of Hughson. Four grandchildren, Heather (Doug) Brandow of Fresno, Matthew Hager of Fresno, Devyn Baptista of Turlock, and Tyler Baptista of Hughson. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren Serenity, Landen and Parker Brandow of Fresno, CA. Mabel has one surviving sister, Wilda Rodgers of Placerville, CA.
Mabel was preceded in death by her only brother Bill Beghtel, and four sisters, Mame Jaspar Burt, Fern Juliano, Alice Johnson and Arna Paul.
No matter where she worked, she touched the lives of every one. Over the years she worked at; ‘Community Hospital', ‘Emanuel Hospital', ‘Smith Chevrolet', ‘A Special Place' and ‘Federal Land Bank'. She was active in many organizations especially those that involved her children and grandchildren. She was a 4-H Community and Project Leader as well as a THS Ag Advisory Committee Member and was presented the Turlock FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award.
Mabel loved being with her family and friends. Whether you knew her as Mom, Grammie, Auntie Mabel or Blondie, she brought the same kindness, generosity and happiness into the lives of all those around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be sent to the Turlock FFA Roy and Mabel Baptista Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of THS FFA, 1600 E Canal Drive, Turlock, CA 95380
Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday March 16, 2010 at Turlock Memorial Park located at 425 Soderquist Rd. Turlock CA. A prayer service and memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Turlock Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Flowers Mausoleum at Turlock Memorial Park.
