Avis Arbuckle, 95, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on September 19, 2004. Avis was born in Cashmere, Washington on October, 7, 1908, and with the exception of a few years spent in Anchorage, Alaska, she lived all her life in the little town in which she was born.

Avis attended Cashmere Public Schools and graduated from Cashmere High School in 1926. After her graduation she was employed in Cashmere working a short while in the ticket office of the local movie theater. She was later employed at Aplets and Cotlets, the Post Office for many years, and Blue Star growers packing apples in the fall.

In 1943, Avis married John Arbuckle. They made their first home in Anchorage, Alaska but moved back to Cashmere a few years later and settled in their home on Elberta Street. John passed away in 1980.

Avis stayed in her home until failing health prompted her to move to the Cashmere Convalescent Center in 1999. Upon the completion of the Epladalen Assisted Living facility in Cashmere, she was able to move into her own apartment and enjoyed two happy years there. A stroke in July 2002, made her unable to return to her apartment at Epladalen and she spent the rest of her life at the Cashmere Convalescent Center.

Avis was a lifetime member of Cashmere First Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She served as a volunteer at the Chelan County Museum and was a member of her beloved Potluck Gang for many years. She had many loving qualities- her most obvious ones were her marvelous sense of humor- how she loved a good joke! And her cheerful, upbeat outlook on life.

Avis is survived by a large and loving family. Her parents, her husband John, her sisters, Lois, Irma and Mary and her brother Fayette preceded her in death. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, September 23, 2004, in the Cashmere First Baptist Church. Viewing will be from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, and on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on the day of the service at the Braun Funeral Home.
