He was born April 9, 1938, in Rockbridge County a son of the late Allison Ayres and Catherine Rader Ayres. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Bobby, and two sisters, Mary and Myra.
Mr. Ayres was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church and retired from the Rockbridge Farmers Co-op with 30 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley M. Ayres of Lexington; one daughter, Lisa Ayres Budzinski of Churchville; two brothers, John Ayres and Alfred Ayres, both of Lexington; one sister, Rosa Lee Bogaev of Fredericksburg; and two grandchildren, Julia Budzinski; Ladd Budzinski.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens by Dr. Horace Douty. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 530 E. Main Street, Suite 200, Richmond, VA 23219. Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
