Edward Harmon Ayres, Jr.
Elm Grove, LA - Services celebrating the life of Edward Harmon Ayres Jr., (Harmon The Goose) age 78, will be held at Koran Baptist Church on Saturday May 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Officiating the service will be Bro. George Rogers, Bro. Mike Reichard and Bro. Larry Hatcher. Interment with military honors will be held immediately following the service at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport, La. Visitation will be from 12 - 2 pm prior to the service at Koran Baptist Church.
Harmon was born June 23, 1934 to his loving parents, Edward H. and Maudie Farley Ayres in Jonesboro, LA and passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on May 8, 2012. Harmon was a 1952 graduate of Jonesboro-Hodge High School; after graduation he returned as a post-graduate as a member of the J-HHS basketball team. He received a BS degree from Louisiana Tech and later worked on his doctorate at LSU-Baton Rouge. He proudly served his country in the US Army, 246th field artillery and bat and continued life-long friendship with his "army buddies" who met each year for reunions. Harmon retired from the Caddo Parish School System after teaching in area school for 27 years.
His love for country living, hunting, fishing and archery contributed to his choice of retirement on Lake Bistineau in the Koran Community. He and Marie opened an archery business and cultivated many special friendships with repeat customers.
Harmon and his wife, Marie Hunter Ayres, of 34 years shared many common interests such as enjoying Southern Gospel Music Concerts, church activities including 34 years as members of Koran Baptist Church and by participating in the Church Choir. They also enjoyed attending their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. He was a man of integrity who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was active in church and attended every service as long as health permitted. He was known as the "candy man" and had a peppermint choice of red, green or butterscotch ready at each service for everyone (adults and children alike).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maudie Mae Farley Ayres and Edward Harmon Ayres. Left to cherish his memories is his wife, Marie Hunter Ayres; twin sons, Johnny and Jimmy Ayres; daughter, Angela Dawn, step-son, Mark Gruner and wife Kandace; grandchildren, Christopher, Audri, Sarah, Marshall, Teri, Taylor, Tiffany, Lauren, Gunner, and Bradley; great-grandchildren, Kyler, Kalyn, Kati, Weston, Brooklyn, Gabriel and Aubrey; brothers, Larry and wife Yvonne, Bruce and wife Mary and Precious Uncle Guy Farley.
The family would like to thank Drs. Blanchard, Nickelson, Durci and the ever patient Synergy Home Health and Amedisys Hospice, Faye, David, Larry and Dianne and all other wonderful friends.
