Arthur Allen Ayres, 76, Olathe, KS, died Sunday, January 25, at Royal Terrace Nursing Center, Olathe. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at Grace United Methodist Church, 520 S. Harrison, Olathe; burial will follow in Olathe Memorial Cemetery, Olathe. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at W.L. Frye & Son Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula, Olathe. The family suggests memorial contributions to Santa Fe Trail Association, R.R. 3, Larned, KS.

He was born July 24, 1921, in Kansas City, KS, to Nelson and Grace (Powell) Ayres. Arthur was a lifelong Olathe resident, and worked at the Olathe Post Office for 36 years, retiring in 1976. After retiring he worked at the Olathe Russell Stover Distribution Center until 1986. During WW II he served his country in the Army. On November 18, 1944, he married Ruth C. Crane, in Kansas City, KS. He was preceded in death by both his parents and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home; two sons, Tim Ayres, Pamona, KS, and Chris Ayres, Johnson City, TN; one sister, Naomi Lightfoot, Larned, KS; one brother, Nelson Ayres, Hot Springs Village, AR; five grandchildren; burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to North Cross United Methodist Church or Salvation Army. Mr. Ayres was born November 2, 1905, in Westboro, MO. He was a member of North Cross United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, and two granddaughters. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruby C. Ayres, of the home; four daughters, Barbara Lorenz and husband, Jack, Overland Park, KS, Carolyn McLeroy and husband, Ron, Kansas City, MO, Marsha Bieker and husband, Dennis, Hays, KS, and Stephanie Mayden and husband, Randy, Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
