Helena Beatrice Ayers, age 91, formerly of Francestown, died after a short illness on Oct. 9, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff of Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.

She was born on January 14, 1921 in Amesbury, MA, the daughter of William MacDougall and Helena Mackay MacDougall.

Helena lived in several towns throughout Southern New Hampshire over the past many years, including Henniker, Weare, and Rindge, but she spent the majority of her adult life in Francestown. She spent her early life working at DD Bean in Jaffrey, Sylvania, cooking at Crotched Mountain and as a clerk at the American Guernsey Cattle Club. Prior to her retirement in 1986, she was the Town Librarian in Bennington.

She was married to Howard F. Ayers, who died in 1998. Helena enjoyed gardening, particularly vegetables, and loved cooking. She was an avid reader and was fond of knitting and crocheting. Helena also spent a great deal of time farming at the Hob Nob Farm in Francestown.

She was predeceased by her son Robert Ayers in 1966 and her brother Robert MacDougall in 2007.

A graveside service was held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Old Stage Coach Road, Bennington, NH.
