Mrs. Annie Ware Aycock, age 86, Rome passed away Thursday, June 4th at 10:10 am at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Cheney A Holmes, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Aycock was born on March 5, 1905 in Byrd Station, GA to the late Mr. James and Mrs. Chanie Milam Ware. She was graduated from Rome High Industrial School and received a diploma from Clark’s Normal Dept in 1930. “Ms Annie,” as she was affectionately called, taught at Menlo, GA, at West Rome Elementary School, and at GA School for the Deaf. Mrs. Aycock was actively involved in Greater Mt. Calvary Church, serving in many capacities, which included teaching Sunday School Sunbeams, Red Circle and Young Davids. Her love of and concern for others extended beyond racial lines into the community where she served in various organizations including United Way, the Rome Branch of the NAACP, and the Rome Council on Human Relations. Other community activities consisted of giving assistance to whoever was in need whatever and wherever the need arose. She touched many lives, helping other people to live a Christian life. She was preceded in death by her husband, C W Aycock in January of 1983.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charlsie Hampton of Mt. Holly, NJ and Mrs. Cheney Holmes of Rome; two sons-in law, Mr. William Hampton of Mt. Holly, NJ, and Mr. Gregory Holmes of Rome; two grandchildren, William Hampton III and Rhonda Hampton of Mt. Holly, NJ and a host of cousins.
