MUSCATINE, Iowa — David G. Awbrey, 62, of Muscatine, Iowa, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, in Escanaba, Mich., from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Services will be Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casket bearers will be Jim Hoefer, Jason Tucker, Vern Lukehart, Andy Noel, Tim Herrin, Greg Jansen, J.R. Beaver, Cory Daufeldt, Derek Koenig, Kevin Kleponis, Skip Hansen and Eric Jansen. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the New Hope United Methodist Church. Visitation for David will be held on Monday, June 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in David's name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Awbrey family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

David George Awbrey was born on June 21, 1948, in Muscatine, the son of Allen and Alberta (Stecher) Awbrey. On February 14, 1970, he was united in marriage to Karen Ruth Hazen at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine. Through M.C.C. he earned a bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He also worked for G.P.C. of Muscatine in the Transportation and Scheduling Department. David was a past member of the Moose Lodge of Muscatine and of the Traffic Club. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, motorcycle riding, camping, hunting, playing cards, bowling and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.

David will be dearly missed by his sons, Anthony Awbrey and wife, Betsy, of Lisbon, Iowa, and Robert Awbrey and wife, Anne, of Traer, Iowa; six grandchildren, Seery, Jenna, Johnny, Bob, John-John and Hattie; his sisters, Judy Jensen and husband, Art, of Davenport, Jane Awbrey of West Liberty, Iowa, Sue Lowe and husband, Mike, of Muscatine; his brothers, Jerry Awbrey and wife, Dee Dee, of Davenport and Dale Awbrey and wife, Cora, of Pleasant Prairie, Iowa.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
