Doris Chester was the daughter of Herman John Chester and Betty Ledbetter Chester of Morganton, North Carolina.
She gave much of her time as a volunteer for many tasks and organizations: church organist; Guardian Ad Litem; Parenting Place, and by serving on the board of Stonesthrow Homeowner Association. Doris was a certified reading instructor. She was also a member of the Certified International Decorators Inc., the Red Hat Society, and AARP.
Surviving in addition to her parents is her son, Christopher Todd Wellman.
In regard to her funeral service, Andrews Mortuary of Wilmington was in charge of arrangements. A memorial service was held in the funeral home chapel following visitation on 28 June 2007. Lynn Hollister, Florina Fineman, Marilyn Gore, and Janis Carroll spoke at this celebration of Mrs. Avery's life.
On 29 June, 2007, an additonal service was held at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton, NC. Speakers were Verdie Burns, Glenice Thomas, and Artie Logan.
The family requested that memorial gifts be made to Good Shepherd Center of Wilmington, NC.
