Daniel Avery was the fourth son of John and Ruby Avery, and was born in the town of prattsburgh, Steuben Co., N. Y., May the 23rd, 1828, and was from a family of ten children, five sons and five daughters, and he survived them all by nearly nine years. He had been a lifelong resident In the town of his birth. The last few years of his life were marked with intense pain as his suffering was from a cancer on his hand. September the 25th, 1851 he was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Chapman. Five children were born to them. Frank the oldest, died at the age of eleven years, on December the 9th, 1864. The surviving ones are Mrs. Elizabeth Premier, Mrs. Millie Northrop, Clark Avery and Mrs. Blanche Nickles. Mr. Avery lived all of his married life on the homestead of his parents. After the death of his wife, on June the 17th, 1908, he broke up house-keeping and lived with his children, that were all so kind to him. Last July he came to live with his daughter, Mrs. Presler, where he grew worse till the last. On Christmas morning of 1910 his sufferings were ended and his life work was done. The fuueral took place at the home where he died. Rev. G. W. Richmyer gave a good talk and read the beautiful poem, "Crossing the Bar," and the choir sang three very appropriate hymns, and the remains of this highly esteemed one were laid to rest by the side of his loved ones in the North Side cemetery.
