Carlton L. Avery, 82, of Canaan and formerly of Athens, passed away following a long illness on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Athens, the son of the late William and Laura (Corson) Avery.
Carlton was educated in Athens schools. He married the former Emily York on Dec. 19, 1950, in Athens. Carlton was a woodsman for many years; he and his son Clifford owned and operated a dairy farm in South Solon for 15 years.
Besides his wife of 59 years, Emily of Canaan, he is survived by his four children: Charles "Clifford" Avery and his wife, Carla "Vickie," of Canaan, Adrian Avery of Solon, Darryl "Popeye" Avery of Solon, and Donna Lloyd and her husband, James, of Cornville; his grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Joseph, Adam, Jason, Jennifer, Jeremy, Jessica, Brandon and Ryan; several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and lots of close friends.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens. (Morning Sentinel 3/5/2010)
