Donald J. Auwerda, 79, passed away on April 26, 2014. Born on May 22, 1934 in Highland, Indiana to Jacob and Gertrude (nee Scott) Auwerda. He attended Highland Christian School. Donald enjoyed fishing, baseball, bowling, hunting and playing pool. He worked for Hometown Carpet in Whiting. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survived by children: Cindy (late James) Gasvoda of Schererville, and Daniel (Debbie) Auwerda of Hammond. Siblings: Gloria (Dennis) Deleeuw of DeMotte; Grace Auwerda of Highland; Hank (Judy) Auwerda of DeMotte; Karen (Greg) Parker of Wheatfield; Trudy (Wayne) Boss of Wheatfield; Kathey (Harry) Ference of DeMotte, Jackie (Bill) Needles of Wheatfield, and Lori Auwerda of Highland. Grandchildren: Amy (Keith) Wilkening, Douglas (Mary) VanRamshorst, Jacob Auwerda, as well as three great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held. Memorials for Donald may be made to the Highland Christian School. Arrangements under the direction of Frazier Funeral Home of DeMotte.
