Marion - Carl Autrey, 81, of Marion, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late John Weldon and Biddy Young Autrey. He was a World War II Army veteran, having received five Bronze Service stars. He was preceded in death by a sister, Belle Wilson and a grandson, Patrick Thomas. He was a self employed nurseryman.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lillie Wilson Autrey; six children, Patricia Thomas and Jerry Autrey of Burnsville, Gary Autrey, Kay Lewis, Kathy M. Denny and Randy Autrey of Marion; 10 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; sister, Flossie Sparks of Spruce Pine; and half-sister, Bonnie Autrey of Jonas Ridge.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville. The Revs. Jim Shoupe, Ronnie Gentry and Ronnie Whitson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Church Cemetery at Seven Mile Ridge with military rites by the McDowell VFW Post. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
