Ada Newton Austin, the youngest of ten children born to Asa and Catherine Newton, was born October 1, 1858, at Falmouth, Kentucky, and died at her home in Waverly, Friday morning, december 24, 1937.
When she was three years old the family moved to Indiana, at a point near Cincinnati, Ohio. At thirteen she moved with the family to Grandview, Ill., where she grew to womanhood.
On March 22, 1883, she was married to Carlin A. Austin, who survives her. They made their home at Grandview a little more than six years, moving then to a farm near Paris, Ill. Ten years later they moved to a farm near Waverly, retiring in 1929 to the home in this city.
To this union came three sons and two daughters, of whom these remain to join their father in his bereavement: Mrs. Mary C. Satterlee of Irving, Edgar Austin of Peoria, Mrs. Elsie M. Ashbaugh of Waverly, and Charles H. Austin of Peoria. There are seven grandchildren. Of her family but three nieces remain, namely, Mrs. Ella Boyer and Mrs. Mabel Fidler, of Marion, Ohio, and Mrs. Etta Arterburn, of Crothers, Pa.
At the age of nineteen, Mrs. Austin was converted and joined the Methodist Episcapal church at Grandview, and all her remaining life was a devoutly faithful Christian. She had been a member of the First M. E. church in Waverly ever since moving here. Her main interests were her home and her church, these she joyfully served as long as she was able. As a mother and a Christian she excelled.
Funeral services were held at the First M. E. church Monday afternoon at 1:30 , in charge of the pastor, Rev. D. K. Sailor. A long time friend and former pastor, Rev. F. E. Smith, of Macon, delivered the sermon.
Burial was in East cemetery.
