He was born on February 23, 1954 to the late George Willis Austin Sr., and Annie Mae Brookins Austin.
He attended Shoals Creek Baptist Church with his wife. He gave his life to the Lord a few years earlier under the Rev. Notra Craig.
Billy Joe worked for Easley Combined Utilities for 40 years until he had to take disability leave. He was a hard worker and was faithful to his job.
Billy Joe leaves to cherish fond memories his faithful wife Mary Ellen Austin of the home, two daughters, Kayla Amanda Austin of Easley,and Jessica Melody Austin of Greenville.
Survivors include a sister, Rev. Mary Ann Harper of Easley, SC, two brothers: George (Geraldine) Austin Jr., of Greenville, SC, Foster (Sara) Austin of Easley, SC and two grandsons Markel and Elijah Austin of Greenville. A special friend Fred Ellison of Hartford, Connecticut, a host of nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.
He was predeceased by one brother, Victor Terry Austin.
Visitation: Wednesday May 7, 2014 2:30 - 3:30 PM, at Easley Union Baptist Church with funeral service beginning 3:30 PM. The burial will be private.
