Graveside services for Evelyn G. Owen, 80 of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday April 2, 2013, at Portales Cemetery with Rev. Jaron Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery with all her family and friends as Honorary Pallbearers.
Evelyn was born on November 1, 1932, in Goodland, Texas to Walter and Alice G. (Fort) Austin and passed away on March 30, 2013 in Portales. She attended school in Portales. She met and dated Noel Owen in Portales. He was drafted and sent to Alabama, so she went to Alabama to marry him in 1951 in Dolthan, Alabama. They loved to camp and fish and spent many a nights at their cabin, they built, north of Santa Fe. Evelyn will be remembered by many in Portales, as the babysitter that took care of them. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ray Austin and Myers Austin, her sisters, Hazel Smith, Estelle Smith and Beulah May Benson. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Noel Owen, her son, Dwayne N. Owen and wife Terri of Farmington, her daughters, Renelda L. Reed and husband Bruce of Lovington, NM, and Annise C. Chetelat of Pueblo, Colorado, her sister, Pauline Stephenson of Silver City, NM. Also surviving her are four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
