Dilton Austin, 85, of Atkins, died Friday, February 25, 2000, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. Born at Bells Chapel, a son of the late L. D. and Clara Griggs Austin, he was retired employee of Wal-Mart and a lifelong member of Ada's Assemlby of God Church in the Bells Chapel community where he taught the same Sunday School class for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Kendrick Austin; his second wife, Geraldine Kyle Bowden Austin and a son, Jerry Austin. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Billie Austin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; J. L. and Carlene Austin of Atkins and the Rev. Sam and Bobbye Austin of Milan, Tennessee, a stepson, D. L. Bowden of El Reno, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was Monday, February 28, at Ada's Assembly of God Church at Bells Chapel with the Revs Sam Austin, Peggy Duvall and David Bishop officiating. Burial was at Bells Chapel Cem under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. (from the Atkins Chronicle)
