Edward L. Austin, 84, entered into his home in heaven on Monday, January 1, 2012. He lived a long happy life serving his family, church and community.
A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Theodore H. and Genelle (Cothran) Austin, he was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a retired employee of Startex Mill.
A member of Tucapau Baptist Church for 66 years, he served wherever God could use him from church maintenance to Chairman of Deacons. He worked with youth in Scouting and Sports, where he obtained rank of Eagle Scout and served for 20 years on District 5 School Board.
Surviving are his wife, Betty (Allen) Austin of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Sawyer of Greenville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Phil Austin of Columbia, Rodney and Amy Austin of Lyman, and Mike and Terri Austin of Inman; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Austin was predeceased by a brother, Elbert Austin.
Funeral services were held 2:30 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Tucapau Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Eric Nixon and Dr. Bill Pate. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was held 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday at the church.
Memorials could be made to Tucapau Baptist Church Missions Fund, Startex, SC.
