Helen "Buddy" Joan Baker Austin, 82, of Roanoke, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Austin; parents, Nelson and Mary Baker; and her brother, Joe Baker. Buddy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed nature, especially her favorite cardinals. Surviving are her sons, Tim Austin, of Roanoke, Joe Austin and wife, Heather, of Daleville, and Adam C. Austin, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jake and Abby Austin; sister, Elinor B. Lucas; and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of South Roanoke Nursing Home for their care and concern over the past weeks. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in Buddy's memory to the SPCA or the Humane Society. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. David Rochford officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Oakey's North Chapel. Oakey's North Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
